Rank decay in Rocket League

Rocket League has no rank decay. Each playlist keeps its own MMR while you are away, though your rank can lag behind your current skill after a long break.

Placements and the season reset

10placement games

You play 10 placement matches in each competitive playlist every season before that playlist shows a rank.

Season reset

Every season starts with a soft reset that pulls hidden MMR slightly towards the middle, then the 10 placements per playlist. Players new to a playlist are seeded from their other playlists.

Who can you queue with?

There is one hard rule: a two-player party in 3v3 Standard or 3v3 Tournaments must be within three ranks of each other (Platinum III with Diamond III works, Platinum II with Diamond III does not). Everything else can queue together, matched at a skill weighted towards the party's highest player.

Exceptions
Brand-new players can queue with anyone ranked Gold III or below. Doubles, Extra Modes and full parties have no hard rank gap.
