Blackwing Lair Attunement

Completing the Blackwing Lair attunement involves these straightforward steps:

1. Locate and defeat the Scarshield Quartermaster within the concealed hallway positioned just past the Blackrock Spire entry
2. Retrieve Blackhand's Command from his remains and interact with it to initiate the quest bearing the same name
3. Navigate through the Blackrock Spire until you reach General Drakkisath and eliminate him
4. Interact with the Orb of Ascension situated directly behind the defeated General Drakkisath.
5. Your Attunement quest is now complete!

Upon returning to the Orb of Command in the same hallway where you defeated the Scarshield Quartermaster, you will be transported directly to the Blackwing Lair entrance.

While this attunement quest is generally uncomplicated, you might face difficulties, such as locating the Scarshield Quartermaster or competing with other players to loot him. Furthermore, a capable group is required to clear the Blackrock Spire and conquer General Drakkisath. Unfortunately, there is no in-game system to monitor your completed attunements. Consequently, you must verify your status manually using one of these methods:

Travel to Blackrock Mountain to find and defeat the Scarshield Quartermaster. If you are able to loot the “Blackhand's Command” item from his corpse, your attunement remains incomplete. If you cannot, you are likely already attuned.

Visit the Orb of Command and attempt to interact with it. Checking whether or not it teleports you into the Blackwing Lair is the most direct way to confirm your attunement status.

Similar to the Molten Core raid, you are not strictly required to have an attunement to gain entry to the Blackwing Lair. The process simply unlocks a convenience shortcut for future visits. Nevertheless, there is more to consider than what is immediately obvious.

Even though the game does not mandate completing the attunement, other players often do. Raiding groups generally do not wish to trek through the Blackrock Spire with you or wait for you to complete the task individually. Therefore, it remains highly beneficial for every raider to finish an attunement to ensure a smoother raiding experience.

There has been incorrect information suggesting that the attunement quest is mandatory for entering the raid, which occasionally causes issues due to the high volume of players attempting it simultaneously. To clarify, you are not required to finish the attunement quest to access the raid. If you are unable to enter for any reason, it is likely the result of a bug.

Much like the situation with the Molten Core, the attunement requirement for the Blackwing Lair was abolished in Patch 5.4.0 during the Mists of Pandaria expansion.
