The floor of the ranked ladder. Iron games are decided by fundamentals rather than strategy — last-hitting, not dying to obvious ganks, and knowing what your champion actually does. Most players who focus on one champion and one role climb out of Iron quickly.

Mechanics are shakier than the decision-making. Bronze players usually understand the objectives exist but fight for kills instead. Learning to leave a losing fight and take a free tower is the single biggest jump available here.

The largest concentration of players sits in and around Silver. Laning is passable, but macro is not — teams group late, ignore vision, and throw leads. Wave management alone separates a Silver player from a Gold one.

Gold is the historic benchmark for a "decent" player and the tier most ranked rewards are pegged to. Players know the map and the win conditions, but execution is inconsistent — good calls happen a minute too late.

Laning phase is genuinely competitive and punishment for mistakes is immediate. Platinum is where champion pool depth starts to matter — one-tricks thrive, and players without a reliable pick begin to stall.

Added in 2023 between Platinum and Diamond, which pushed every tier above it further up the ladder. Emerald plays like old low Diamond: solid fundamentals across the board, with games decided by mid-game rotations and objective setup rather than laning.

The last tier with divisions and the point where the ladder gets genuinely difficult. Diamond players punish small errors reliably, play around vision, and understand tempo. Progress from Diamond IV to Diamond I is often slower than the entire climb before it.

The first apex tier. Divisions disappear — you simply accumulate LP with no cap, and there is no promotion series to Grandmaster. Master is where smurfs, ex-Challenger accounts and aspiring pros share the same queue.

Grandmaster is not earned at a fixed LP number. It is a slice of the ladder: roughly the top few hundred accounts per region, with the exact cutoff moving daily as players gain and lose LP. Drop below the cutoff and you return to Master automatically.

The highest rank in League of Legends, limited to roughly the top few hundred accounts per region depending on server size. The Challenger cutoff is recalculated continuously, so holding the rank requires playing regularly — inactivity alone will drop you out.
