Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn: The Champions at Arcane's Core

Jinx and Vi are one of the main characters driving Arcane's story from Act 1 onward, with their bond as sisters carrying much of the emotional weight, tracing Powder's transformation into Jinx, then tackling their separation and the resulting trauma. These characters soon come to represent the twin cities of the affluent Piltover and the undercity of Zaun, and the divide between them reflects the conflict between those extremes.

Caitlyn, an AD carry in League, serves as the third major perspective in the story, initially as Piltover's idealistic and privileged daughter, but growing into a more prominent but ruthless role. The relationship between Caitlyn and Vi is a central highlight that many praise for its complex depth and for adding layers to the lore that many fans have speculated about for years.

Jayce, Viktor, and Ekko: Inventors and Rebels

Hextech is the technology that drives the struggles in Arcane's story, and Jayce Talis is the brilliant mind behind the invention, burdened with the cost of what he creates, mirroring his in-game identity as a champion who shifts between melee and ranged combat. Together, Jayce and Viktor, who is an inventor from Zaun but also grapples with a terminal illness, they create Hextech with the hopes of saving and improving people's lives, but things never go the way you expect.

As for Viktor's own story arc, he eventually becomes the Machine Herald, and the show sets things up nicely by the end of Season 1, making his role in Season 2 feel earned. Riot Games even reworked Victor's design in Patch 14.24 to better match his character in Arcane.

Then there's Ekko, introduced in season one as the leader of the Firelights rebel street gang, who opposes Silco's Shimmer trade in Zaun. Season 2 sees him gain his signature ability to manipulate time, earning him his Boy Who Shattered Time moniker, though his Season 1 showdown with Jinx provides a lot of excitement even before then. Heimerdinger, Singed, and Warwick: The Old Guard

Heimerdinger is a centuries-old scientist who served as head of the Piltover Council and became a mentor to Jayce, imparting his knowledge and experience of the rise and fall of civilizations due to the effects of unchecked power. Singed's role in the series is that of the chemist responsible for the creation of Shimmer, which is one of Zaun's greatest problems. His motivations turn out to be saving his daughter, who is actually Oriana, Lady of Clockwork.

Warwick, consistent with his League of Legends lore, is still the feral and barely human wolf-beast. But he is revealed to actually be Vander, Vi and Jinx's adoptive father, transformed by Singed into a character in the show who embodies the tragedy of the Piltover and Zaun divide. His connection to the sisters, particularly his relationship with Vi, is one of the meaningful explorations in the show.

Ambessa, Mel, and LeBlanc: Noxian Champions in Season Two

The show expanded beyond the borders of Zaun and Piltover in Season 2, with the introduction of many characters from Noxus. Ambessa Medarda is the matriarch of the Medarda family and a Noxian warlord whose role in Arcane Season 2 centers on steering Piltover's politics from behind the scenes. She is the first original character from Arcane added as a playable champion in League of Legends.

Mel Medarda is a Piltover councilor whose magical abilities are awakened by LeBlanc and is another Arcane character already added to LoL's roster of playable champions. LeBlanc is the leader of Black Rose, which is a Noxian secret society. Her role in the second season of Arcane sees her kidnap Mel using illusion magic, retaining much of her Deceiver persona from the game.

Then there's Singed's daughter, Orianna, who ends up being heavily augmented with clockwork machinery but is left to become something that is no longer human.

Every Champion Easter Egg and Cameo in Arcane

These are the 13 champions in Arcane with significant roles and screen time throughout the series, but that doesn't mean they're the only ones from the game to appear in the series. Arcane made sure to include cameos and references to other champions throughout Arcane Season 1 and Season 2.

Teemo appears almost everywhere, including in children's books, Sevika's slot machine arm, and Isha's hat and goggles. Janna appears as a wind spirit protecting Zaun miners, and the Noxian Grand General Swain is shown being teased by a three-eyed crow.

Some references are harder to spot, such as a cloaked mage that saves Jayce in his youth with what looks like Ryze's Realm Warp. Others include Kindred and Caitlyn's imagery, used in one section that tackles mortality. The two birds in Viktor's garden were referencing Rakan and Xayah. And Jhin's theatrical mask was shown in Ekko's timeline sequence.

Many items were also referenced, including Rabadon's Deathcap sitting on a shelf in Benzo's shop, and Kaenic Rookern used by Ambessa. There was even a nod to some Esports teams with logos from T1, Gen.G, and Fnatic shown on a carnival wheel in Episode 7. All this is just the tip of the iceberg.

By the end of Season 2, Arcane had set a high bar for what creators can do with a game IP when translated properly into a narrative-driven form.
