A Brief introduction to League of Legends
If you have never played League of Legends, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the multitude of champions to select from and learn to play. League of Legends is easy to learn thanks to its simple design but contains several distinct playstyles for you to choose from.
What is the Goal?
The goal of each match is to destroy your enemy’s Nexus. The Nexus acts as your home base and the last line of defense. You must battle to the other side of the map to your enemy’s Nexus while fighting other players in PVP, player versus player, as well as NPC minions and turrets.
You and your opponent have minions that attack the enemy in waves. Your minions are your primary means of destroying the enemy’s Nexus, but they cannot defeat towers alone. This is where you come in. It is up to the player to destroy enemy towers and allow your minions to advance.
Never attempt to destroy a tower alone. You must allow your minions to advance first to draw the turret fire. Once all of your minions are down, it is crucial to retreat until reinforcements arrive. If the tower is targeting you, run. Escape is paramount; you cannot survive if you stand in turret fire.
Getting Stronger
Unlike other online games, such as World of Warcraft, League of Legends is not a slow character-building game. Your champions reset after each match, losing all levels, items, and gold gained during the game. While some players undoubtedly view this as a bad thing, it allows each match to start evenly matched.
You gain experience by being in the area when enemies are defeated. You also earn gold by defeating enemies. As the game progresses, you can return to your base to purchase upgrade items with the gold that you have collected.
As you gain experience, you gain levels. You can level up to level six. At this point in the game, you can unlock your champion’s ultimate attack. This is an extremely powerful attack that can have a significant impact on the outcome of the match if adequately utilized.
Advancing to the Enemy
The ultimate goal of each match is to destroy the enemy Nexus. You cannot do that without advancing across the battlefield, but do not just blindly charge in. It is essential to stay in the lanes at the beginning of a match.
There are three lanes on each map. These are top, mid(middle), and bot(bottom). There are areas between these lanes, but these areas contain powerful monsters that attack anyone who gets too close. As the game progresses, you can take out these monsters for a gold payout, but you need to gain a few levels first.

Many of the people playing League of Legends today have been playing for years, so do not get discouraged if you do not get off to the best start.
