Most Remarkable E-Sport Events

E-Sport is a sports competition involving video games where online gamers compete for cash prizes and titles. The sport takes the form of organized, multiplayer video competitions between professional players. 

 

There are tournament structures and cash prizes to be won. Popular E-sport games include Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Fortnite, Overwatch, Madden NFL, and League of Legends. E-Sport has evolved with the advancements in technology. Competitions now take place in large arenas while other fans stream the events worldwide. The popularity of the sport has seen some events be unusually prominent. Here are some of the most remarkable we have seen:

 

League of Legends World Championship 2015

 

The event took place in Paris, London, Brussels, and Berlin from October 1st, 2015 to October 31st, 2015. Online viewership was 36 million and a live attendance of 43,000 in total. League of Legends had 16 teams facing off each other to claim the prize pool of $2,130,000. This event earned 550,000 Twitch viewers on the Riot Game Channel, 240,000 YouTube viewers on the Riot Game Channel and 30,000 viewers on the New Viewers Stream. The final match was watched by 14 million people where SK Telecom T1 won.

 

CFS World Championship 2017

 

This event happened in the Xi'an gymnasium in Xi'an, China. The event attracted 37 million viewers online, the majority of them being the Chinese. The game had 12 teams fighting for the prize pool of $850,000 from November 30th, 2017 to December 3rd, 2017. They played Crossfire, an FPS online PC game developed by SmileGate. Super Valiant Gaming won.

 

League of Legends World Championship 2016

 

This event began on September 29th, 2016 and lasted until October 29th, 2016 in four American cities; San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Riot Games broke records with 43 million viewers online and a live attendance of 47, 268. The prize pool of $5,070,000 was vied for by 16 teams on the 6.18 version of the game. The team SK Telecom T1 won the prize yet again.

 

Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2017

 

Intel sponsored this event in a Polish city, Katowice. The event attracted 46 million online viewers and 173,000 live attendants. IEM Katowice held three competitions: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and StarCraft II. The spectators watched 12 teams participate for a prize pool of $250,000 on two separate weekends: February 25th, 2017 to February 26th, 2017; March 3rd, 2017 to March 5th, 2017. Intel heightened excitement and entertainment by showcasing its latest technology. There were three winners in this extraordinary event. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive winner was Astralis, the Flash Wolves won the League of Legends and Jun "TY" Tae Yang won StarCraft II.

 

LoL Mid-Season Invitational 2018.

 

The fourth season of the Riot Games accumulated 60 million online viewers and 7,000 live attendants. Adlersholf, Germany and Le Zénith, Paris hosted the event between May 3rd, 2018 and May 20th, 2018. There were 14 teams contesting on the 8.8 version of League of Legends for a prize pool of $1, 370, 520. The Royal Never Give Up team won.
