How Much Do Twitch Streamers Earn?

Most gamers, recreational and professional, have heard of the live streaming platform called Twitch. You can play video games, watch others play, and online chat with gamers around the world. Millions of gamers have signed on to be a part of this online community that was first introduced in 2011. You can either live stream videos on Twitch or watch one of the many uploaded ones. You can think of it as social media for video gamers.

Twitch Users

Many people who have an account do so for personal reasons. They want to show the world and their followers how good they are at a certain game, or they want to watch others dominate and try to get tips on better play. You can make your own stream, upload videos, and more.

Not surprisingly, some users have found ways to make a living out of using Twitch. You can really make good money playing video games and having people watch you! You don’t even have to be that good at it! All you need are loyal followers who are willing to watch your every move. Most of these gamers stream their daily playing stints and then upload that content onto YouTube.

Making Money

To make money on this platform, you need to be a Twitch Affiliate. You start here, and as your views increase, you can become a Twitch Partner. The guidelines are simple. You need at least 50 people following you and stream at least 500 minutes in the past month. You also need those streams to be seven different broadcasts.  Once you meet those requirements, you are invited to partner with Twitch. Here is where you can monetize your content.

As a partner, the requirements are more strict. There needs to be 25 hours of streaming in the past month, and 12 of those days have to have different content. You also need 75 followers who have been with you for the last 30 days. When you reach those requirements, Twitch can review your application, and you start getting paid.

How much money you make heavily depends on your situation. Those with a high follower count and hundreds of streams can make around $20,000 a month. If you garner any sponsorships or contracts, that is additional money on top of that salary. The top 10 Twitch streamers make over one million dollars a year. Of course, you need over 800,000 viewers to reach that kind of money.

The average streamer who has a few hundred to a few thousand followers can make between $2,000 and $5,000 a month. Not bad for playing video games that you play regardless if you stream or not. The key is to constantly upload content while winning followers.

The majority of Twitch users do not make money off of the platform, and use it solely for entertainment. If you think you can garner a large following with your gameplay, what have you got to lose? You could be a millionaire by just having some fun!
